A once in a generation occasion. Today, schools all around this island commerated The 1916 Rising by reading from the original Proclamation, as Pádraig Pearse did from the steps of the GPO 100 years ago.
Our four 6th Class pupils read that same Proclamation, before students from 3rd, 4th and 5th classes read from our “Proclamation for 2016”, outlining some of their hopes and aspirations for this county of ours for the next 100 years.
Our tri-colour was then raised by Private Kevin Moran, a past pupil and current member of the Irish Defence Forces, along with our youngest pupil, Enya Kelly.
Finally, our pupils performed our National Anthem while Private Moran saluted our flag.
A momentous and proud day!

ICYMI 2: Private Moran’s Grandfather, Dan Moran from Derryvohey (also Mr Charlton’s Grandfather) was a Luitennant in the Ballinamore Brigade of the the old IRA in 1920/21. You can read about some of his exploits here.
ICYMI 3: See our 1916 themed play “Keep Your Mouth Shut“, based on the writings of our former principal Seán T Ruane.
Finally, to mark the true anniversary of The 1916 Rising, which falls on Sunday, April 24th, we will create a time capsule containing our Proclamation for 2016, a whole school photograph which was taken today and a memory stick containing some recordings of our talented music groups! This will happen on Friday, April 22nd.
